Are you on the right track?
How can you ensure that your career remains on track, doesn’t falter and doesn’t go backwards?
Well perhaps if you follow the following tips your career might just progress well.
Tip 1:
Update your skills. Skill sets change all the time especially these days. You may have skills that are not required in the workplace any longer. Move with the times.
Tip 2:
Depth of knowledge and experience seems to have given way to a need for a breadth of skills and experience. In litigation now it is emerging that a litigation paralegal needs to thoroughly understand not only litigation law and rules but also e-Discovery and related technology.
Tip 3:
It’s very tempting to “tell all” when you leave a job but think carefully before your exit interview. You may need to obtain references so it is in your best interests not to alienate the very people who can help you take the next step in your career.
Tip 4:
More and more these days excellent communication skills, interacting with both colleagues and clients etc are in demand. If this is a weak area for you then you need to strengthen these skills sooner rather than later.
Tip 5:
New technology, including software, is moving apace and you need to be as ready as you can be for the next new thing. Keep up to date by reading the Paralegal Knowledge Institute and other Paralegal sites and publications on a regular basis.
